GENERAL INTRODUCTION
The Department of English Language Education, within the body of Adnan Menderes University, Faculty of Education, started education at the undergraduate level with a quota of 50 students in the 2016-2017 academic year. Our department, which continues to grow steadily, continues its education and instruction in the central campus of Adnan Menderes University. There are 1 Associate Professors and 1 Assistant Professor who work in the department.
Brief History
Our department was opened in previous years and started to accept students for the first time in the 2016-2017 academic year.
Vision
The Department of Foreign Languages Education aims to become a distinguished institution with high standards in both national and international fields, at undergraduate and graduate levels, by steadily improving the academic infrastructure in foreign language education and professional equipment of foreign language teachers.
Mission
Our Department of English Language Education aims to contribute to the need for English teachers in our country, to train prospective teachers as teachers who have the knowledge of the field they will need in English teaching, know the most modern foreign language teaching methods, and can adapt their professional knowledge to different country conditions.
Aim:
With its undergraduate program focusing on contemporary approaches in teacher training, The Department of English Language Teaching aims to educate qualified teachers who are aware of modern approaches, who can organize teaching activities in the light of technological developments, who can apply various teaching methods, techniques and strategies in teaching processes, and who can follow national and international studies in the field of foreign language education. In line with these objectives, it is aimed to give courses in the department program in which students can improve their profession. The purpose of the department is to educate qualified, contemporary, innovative English teachers with scientific and critical thinking skills. In the light of this aim, it is aimed to improve the language skills of pre-service teachers, to adopt the characteristics and principles of the teaching profession, and to improve their skills to teach their future students English in the best way using modern methods and techniques.
Among the goals of our department, it is aimed to encourage our students to gain the following characteristics:
1. To comprehend the concepts of English language education and the relations between concepts
2. To be able to adapt educational programs, teaching strategies, approaches, methods and techniques to the conditions they face
3. To be able to apply the most appropriate teaching strategies, methods and techniques by considering the developmental characteristics of students, individual differences, subject field characteristics and aims
4. To be able to prepare appropriate material on the subject key to the needs of the students
5. To be able to cooperate with colleagues in good agreement, to participate in organizations and conferences related to the field
6. Being aware of their strengths and weaknesses.
7. To comprehend the importance of lifelong learning
Physical Infrastructure
There are three-floored building, two-floored additional building and a building having the classrooms of the students of music department. There are a conference hall and two meetings rooms. There are 45 rooms and an all-purpose recreation room for faculty staff. In addition to this, there are a storehouse, an archive room and a buttery outside whose owners are in private sector. Moreover, our university has a central building and this building has six classes for 100 students, two classes for 150 students, thirty classes for 50 students, a class for 500 students and a cafeteria for 500 students. Additionally, there is an exhibition and activity area for 1000 people at the entrance of building and there are many rooms with an area of 6000 square meters for both students and staff. There are facilities for both disabled students and staff in the building having seven lifts. There are 20 classes for graduate students, 2 art studios, 4 classes for music lessons, 2 classes for postgraduate students, 1 science lab, 2 physics labs, 1 computer lab, 1 class doe drama lessons, 1 class for the students of pre-school teaching, 1 paint shop, 20 individual insulated music room, 9 individual rooms with piano, and 1 orchestra-chorus class.
Technical Infrastructure
Our faculty’s classrooms have all kinds of equipment such as projectors, interactive boards, and speakers for our students. Also, our computer lab with 75 square meters usage area has 40 computers.
